How do you know a fake news from a real one? Every election period, there is usually a rise in the amount of fake news flying around.

People fall for it and share it like a viral video.

You already know that the results of the 2023 presidential elections were announced in the early hours of March 1, 2023.

Also, you know that Professor Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) the president-elect.

After that declaration, opposition parties expressed their displeasure at the results and decided to seek redress in court.

However, there have been rumors of a threat to the life of the INEC Chairman, amidst protests against the commission’s conduct of the elections.

Reports circulated few days ago that the INEC chairman claimed that he was getting threats over the outcome of the election.

However, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, has denied the reports.

“At no time did the INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu say that his life was at risk.

“The public should disregard the fake narrative being circulated by mischief makers,” Oyekanmi said in a tweet on Tuesday.

INEC Accused Of Aiding Election Rigging

INEC was unable to immediately transmit the results of the election from the polling units as promised.

This led many Nigerians to accuse the electoral umpire of conniving with the ruling party to rig the election.

Yakubu declared Tinubu the winner of the election despite controversies surrounding the result collation and presentation.
