ID Cabasa Reimagines Styl-Plus’ Classic’Olufunmi’: A Brilliant Remake Or A Boring Reprise?

Award-winning producer and CEO of Coded Tunes Africa, ID Cabasa, has dropped a sequel to his refixing series with a reimagined version of Styl-Plus’ 2003 hit song, “Olufunmi.”

Olufunmi-Reimagined-

This new refix brings together a talented lineup of artists from both old and new generations, including Fireboy DML, Odumodublvck, BoJ, and Joeboy.

Mixed Reactions and Unfiltered Opinions

The music video, shot by multi-award-winning director Clarence Peters, has been getting mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.

Our POV crew sat down to share their unfiltered thoughts on the project, and as always, they didn’t hold back!

ID Cabasa’s Audacious Move: Remaking Classics

The POV crew (Ayo Famurewa, Jude Onowu, and Deborah Ezeh) have spoken, and they’re not mincing words! ID Cabasa’s recent decision to remake classics has been called “audacious,” and for good reason.

Trying to recreate the magic of a chart-topping hit that reigned supreme for three years in Nigeria is no easy feat.

A Divided Opinion

The crew was split on the choice of artists, with Fireboy DML and Joeboy getting the nod, but not everyone was convinced.

Ayo and Jude were on board; however, Deborah thought Chike’ and Johnny Drille would have been a better fit.

And then there’s the question of Odumodublvck and BoJ’s involvement—was it purely a commercial move?

Music Production: Spot On!

One thing the crew did agree on was the top-notch music arrangement, sequencing, and final mix and mastering.

ID Cabasa’s legendary status was evident in the production quality.

Music Video: A Storytelling Masterclass

Clarence Peters proved why he’s a veteran in the game with a music video that was “everything interesting.”

The intro’s phone conversation scene was a nod to the original video by T. Jazz.

The Verdict: A Roasting!

The majority of the POV crew decided to “roast” the reimagined version of Olufunmi. Ouch! It seems ID Cabasa’s audacious move didn’t quite pay off this time around.
