How Pure Water Ban Will Affect ‘Slay Queens’ In Lagos

The reaction of a slay queen on a certain WhatsApp group regarding the recent decision of the Lagos State government to ban the use of single-use plastics and sachet water, popularly known as pure water, left many people rolling on the floor in laughter.

However, after the hard laugh was the reality of what was to come.

You see, in a few months from now, we mean January 2025 to be specific, residents and citizens of Lagos will wave goodbye to the cheapest and most frequently used water (Pure Water).

Indeed, this farewell from Lagosians to their beloved pure water will be with a heavy heart, especially for this slay queen.

Goodbye To Pure Water

While the state government via the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab described the ban as part of measures by the Lagos State Government to put in place policy guidelines for plastic utility.

Lagosians are more concerned with the effects the ban will have on them.

Ordinarily, one would be quick to take pity on sachet water producers and their staffs, whose jobs are at great risk, but this slay queen says she too will go through a lot when this ban is implemented.

“Me sef way dey do fine girl, na pure water i dey drink 4 for 100 naira, pour am inside my water bottle😪”, she lamented.

Indeed, the popular saying “when the wind blows, the anus of the hen gets exposed” cannot be far from true.

Now that we know that many of these slay queens we see with bottled water are in an actual sense drinking pure water, perhaps, it is time we share a little pity for them. Indeed, they too will see ‘shege’ from January 2025.

The list of people who will be affected by this decision in Lagos keeps growing.

Gradually, everyone is beginning to speak up on how they would be affected.

Will the government listen to the cry of Lagosians?

Only time will tell.
