If you are expecting the September 21 governorship election in Edo State to go peacefully, and without violence, then you may need to have a rethink.
As a matter of fact, people in the state who intend to take part in that election will find this information very useful, especially for their safety.
You see, tensions are rising in the state, and people are issuing heavy threats, with the latest from Odion Olaye, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
If only you heard what Olaye said, then perhaps you will know what to expect.
Olaye spoke during a recent campaign event in Egor, Benin City.
In a viral video online, Olaye drummed support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asue Ighodalo.
The NLC boss confidently assured PDP supporters of victory, specifically predicting that Egor will be won by the PDP.
However, should things not go as plan, Olaye says he has a backup plan.
Olaye warned that the state “will burn” if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not declare Ighodalo the winner of the upcoming poll.

Olaye said: “I want to assure you that PDP, our party, is going to win Egor 80 percent come 21st of this month and on 22nd of this month, they must declare Asue Ighodalo the winner.
“If they refuse to do that, Edo state will burn.”
Now, imagine what will happen if the PDP candidate fails to secure victory at the polls and the NLC decides to make do its threat.
Olaye’s statement is a clear indication that the Edo State election may not be peaceful.
On that day, voters must be on high alert and security conscious.
