A few years ago, Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial state, had conducted a survey, with the aim of knowing the mental state of drivers of some commercial buses popularly referred as danfo.
It was a shocking revelation, as the state found that most of them often take alcohol before they begin their duties of commuting people each day.
A study contains this finding.
Really, before you board a danfo in Lagos State, you may have to take a good look at the driver, as some may be mentally unfit to commute people.
Some move around with dangerous weapons in the bus.
It was a shocking incident on Sunday, as passers-by watched a driver of a danfo bus, a Volkswagen’ T4′ with number plate LSR 966 YE, attack an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The incident reportedly caused a commotion around Costain Round-About, Surulere area, Lagos State.
Sunday is often a day most residents of Lagos State go out relax in preparation for a new work week.
prior to the incident, all was well, as residents and road users went about their businesses.
Then just like in a scene from the movies a Danfo driver stabbed the LASTMA official.
Traffic Obstruction
Many people who could not understand what was going on gathered immediately at the scene.
That was when the story began to unfold.
The operatives of LASTMA and Nigeria Police had arrested the suspect for picking up passengers on the main expressway.
His act had caused severe traffic obstructions to other road users around Costain inward Iponri.
LASTMA officer, Olajide Olukoga, who led the enforcement team, said such action was a serious offence.
To him, the Volkswagen commercial ‘T4’ bus was impounded, and the driver was apprehended.
Commotion In Nakedness
Olukoga said the driver, while attempting to escape arrest, stabbed him and went berserk, causing a commotion in the area.

The LASTMA officer added that dangerous weapons were recovered from the suspect’s vehicle after his arrest.
He said: “Our enforcement team had successfully apprehended the driver.
“While trying to escape after dangerous driving, brought out a knife and stabbed me in the process.
“After seeing the deep cut he had inflicted on me with the knife, he decided to strip himself naked and caused serious commotions before he was eventually arrested by Policemen from Iponri Police Station.
“After his arrest, dangerous weapons cutlass and knife were recovered from his commercial Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus by security officers.”
