Unknown gunmen attack INEC training ground in Anambra The increasing level of insecurity ahead of Nigeria’s general elections is becoming alarming.

Even people who are preparing to ensure the success of the election are no longer safe.

Anambra State is not left out in the whole insecurity issues increasingly bedeviling Nigeria.

A training facility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been attacked.

Gunmen perpetuating all forms of criminal activities in the South East carried out the attack.

The incident happened around 5.35PM on February 16.

A police spokesperson in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, notified the public of the incident.

No Lives Were Lost

He said the victims were rescued by joint security team operatives.

Also, the security personnel prevented the hoodlums from abducting or causing harm to them.

“Following the policing strategy put in place by the Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, that is potent and dynamic to respond to any emergency and security concerns, especially ensuring a hitch-free 2023 election in the state, the joint security team today, February 16, 2023, by 5:35 PM, successfully rescued and prevented armed men from hurting electoral officials on an assignment at Ukpor High School, Nnewi South LGA.

“The INEC staff, with some corps members, university undergraduates, and some MDA officials on the training programme of Adhoc staff for the forthcoming 2023 General Elections, were disrupted by the armed men.

“No lives were lost, he said.

Furthermore, he assured residents of the area of their safety.

According to him, a “joint security patrols have been intensified in the area, and efforts are still ongoing to track down the criminal elements”.

“Further development shall be communicated.”
