The Gunners looked to be on course for a first top-flight triumph since the ‘Invincibles’ of 2003-04 when making their way to the top of the table last term.

Mikel Arteta’s side appeared to be immovable objects, with consistency added to their game that had been lacking for the best part of two decades.

Arsenal were eventually chased down by Manchester City – en route to their historic Treble.

But Arteta’s side have returned to the summit in 2023-24 and are determined to stay there.

“Martinelli has said: “We know we are top of the Premier League now.

“We want to be there; we want to be top of the Premier League for the rest of the season.

“We’ll try our best.

“We tried our best (against Wolves), we kept going, we didn’t start to play like it was already won.

“As I said, we tried our best to score another goal, but we didn’t score.

“But the most important thing is three points.”
