The meeting between the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has sparked controversies among Nigerians.

Wike hosted the former Governor of Lagos State at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The meeting also had in attendance prominent chieftains of the ruling party.

As at the time of filing this report, details of the meeting was yet to be made public, however, iBrandtv gathered that the meeting may be connected with the general elections that will begin on February 25.

The meeting comes right after Tinubu’s presidential campaign which held at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia, Port Harcourt, venue for the rally.

A few days ago, some members of the APC in Rivers State claimed that Governor Wike had an intention of joining the ruling party through the backdoor.

Governor Wike is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, but had a fall-out with the party after Atiku Abubakar emerged as the Presidential candidate of the political party.

Rivers State had become a strategic state for the APC each time an election approaches.

In 2013, a former governor of the state, Chibuike Amaechi, who was elected under the PDP at the time, also defected to the APC.

Critics have said that this could be the beginning of another move by the APC to take over the state through Wike like they did with Amaechi.
