Nigerian rapper and fashion entrepreneur, Zlatan Ibile, has criticised the practice of publicly shaming individuals for wearing counterfeit designer items.
He describes it as unnecessary and lacking compassion.
Speaking in a viral video, Zlatan expressed his belief that mocking those who cannot afford authentic luxury products was unfair.
Instead, he advocated for understanding and patience, reminding people that financial circumstances often improve over time.
Zlatan said: “People who buy fake should keep buying it until they can afford the original. Someone wearing fake today might wear the real thing tomorrow”.
His words were delivered in Nigeria’s Pidgin English.
The rapper’s remarks follow a series of incidents in the Nigerian fashion and entertainment industry where public figures were criticised for allegedly wearing counterfeit fashion.
Recently, fashion entrepreneur, Rahman Jago, called out veteran singer Oritse Femi for wearing fake High Fashion pieces.
As a result, a heated debate began online.
Similarly, Ashluxe founder, Olayinka Ashogbon, criticised singer Lyta a few months ago for wearing counterfeit designs of his brand.
