Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has revealed that there are plans to introduce N5,000 notes.

Sanusi revealed that the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN is moving on with its plans to introduce the N5,000 note which they could not achieve in 2012 due to serious resistance experienced by the CBN.

According to the Ex-CBN governor, the N5000 note will bear the faces of three prominent Nigerian female activists. The late politician and social mobilizer, Margaret Ekpo (1914 – 2006); the late politician and activist Hajia Gambo Sawaba (1933 – 2001), and the late politician and women’s rights activist Funmilayo Kuti (1900 -1978), will have their faces featured on the new note.

The redesigned N50 and new N5000 notes will be launched early next year.

When introduced,  the naira currency structure will become  12, six coins, and six bank notes denominations.
