As Nigerians struggled with the biting hardship, members of the House of Representatives passed a bill to establish the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal University of Nigerian Languages.
The bill, sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, and eight others, is aimed at establishing a university for the promotion of the learning of Nigerian languages.
Part of Section II part I of the bill reveals that the university when established shall, “encourage the advancement of learning and to hold out to all persons without distinction of race, creed, sex or political conviction, the opportunity of acquiring a higher education in Nigerian languages and cultures.”
This proposal certainly did not settle well with many Nigerians.
To many, giving an hungry man a school is not only a waste of time, but also resources.

Nigerians React
Notably, human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong knocked the House of Representatives over the proposed Bola Tinubu University bill.

Effiong described the proposal as a sycophancy, saying it is a problem in the country.
Speaking via his X handle, he said: “Some members of the House of Representatives have introduced a Bill to establish a “Bola Tinubu University”.
“The same Bola Tinubu whose educational background is shrouded in controversy.
What has Tinubu done to revamp Nigeria’s educational system?
“Sycophancy is a problem in this country.”
