Asake’s latest album, Lungu Boy, has set new records for streaming on Spotify Nigeria and Apple Music.
Released on Friday, August 9, 2024, the album features collaborations with notable artists such as Wizkid, Central Cee, Stormzy, Travis Scott, and Ludmila.
On its opening day, Lungu Boy achieved 5.86 million streams on Spotify Nigeria, surpassing the previous record of 4.91 million held by Davido’s Timeless.
The album also set a new global record for Nigerian albums on Spotify with 9.2 million streams on its debut.
The track MMS from the album recorded 870,577 streams on its first day, breaking the previous record of 626,000 streams set by Wizkid’s IDK featuring Zlatan.
On its second day, Lungu Boy garnered 3.03 million streams on Spotify Nigeria, marking the highest second-day streams for any album in 2024.
In addition to its success on Spotify, Lungu Boy reached No. 1 on the Apple Music UK Chart, making it Asake’s third album to achieve this milestone, following Mr. Money With The Vibe and Work of Art.
The album also equaled the record for the highest-charting Nigerian album on the Apple Music US Chart, sharing the accolade with Burna Boy’s I Told Them and Davido’s Timeless.
Asake’s rapid rise to stardom continues with Lungu Boy, his third album in three years, solidifying his status as a defining artist of his era.
His previous works include Mr. Money With The Vibe, which won Album of the Year at the 2023 Headies Awards, and Work of Art, which featured the record-setting single Lonely At The Top.
