According to him, the bill is a ‘ticking time bomb’.

Freedom Of Worship

He requested that the parliamentarians reject the Bill because enacting it would jeopardise the country’s peace and unity and encourage persecution.

Amalambu, who stated this in Umuahia in response to the news that the Bill had received a second reading in the Senate, claimed that if the Bill was passed into law and signed into effect, freedom of worship and expression would be hampered.

He chastised the Bill’s sponsor, Senator Binos Yaroe, for proposing such material, claiming that the country does not need anything that might jeopardise its unity and harmony.

He also rejected reports attributed to some executives of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, that state chapters of CAN and other blocs such as the PFN were advised by the national body to support the Bill.

Endless Struggle And Persecution

Amalambu, who is also the Secretary of the PFN in Abia State, chastised Christian legislators in the National Assembly for remaining silent while the Act gained traction, and warned that they would be held accountable by the people if the planned law caused a crisis.

He noted that “most people, particularly the Christian community, may not have a thorough grasp of the Bill or the consequences it may have, and he recommended that it be repealed in the interests of peace, unity, religious and educational freedom.

“Before passing the said Bill into law, we should critically examine it.

“How can such a Bill be discussed using voice notes and a zoom meeting?

“I am adamant that it was not properly constituted, and it has become a source of concern in Nigeria.

“As a Christian father, I will not remain silent, nor will I refrain from informing the larger society of the danger that awaits if this bill is smuggled through the third reading and into law,” Amalambu added.

The PFN South East Zone Secretary continued by warning that “few purported leaders of CAN should not plunge us into an endless struggle and persecution”.
