NELFUND is transforming Nigerian students’ dreams, making higher education more accessible for over half a million young people nationwide.
This year, the fund disbursed ₦107.7 billion to 581,878 students, covering ₦61.3 billion in tuition and ₦46.3 billion for living expenses.

NELFUND Boosts Students Loan Access
By September 30, 2025, students had submitted 846,462 applications, and the portal will reopen in October for the 2025/2026 session.
Interest-Free Support
Managing Director Akintunde Sawyerr explained that the loans remain entirely interest-free to encourage students to stay in school despite challenges.
Previously, many students left university after financial crises, but flexible repayment terms now allow learning first and repayment later.

The scheme starts repayment two years after NYSC completion and pauses automatically if a graduate loses formal employment.
Future-Focused Loans
Sawyerr emphasised that the scheme does not provide grants.
“Loans remind students to choose employable courses and support national development,” he said.
With its supportive structure, NELFUND actively funds education and reshapes students’ futures, giving them confidence to complete degrees and pursue careers.
