What Happened

Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during a “Prove Me Wrong” event hosted by Turning Point USA at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

The shooting was carried out by a sniper using a high-powered bolt-action rifle, firing from a rooftop.

Suspect in Custody

The arrested suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson from Utah. According to Trump, Robinson was turned in by his father, who sought help through a minister connected to law enforcement.

The arrest followed an intense manhunt lasting more than 24 hours.

Authorities had earlier released surveillance images of a man in dark clothing with a distinctive emblem, identified as a person of interest.

Investigators have since recovered forensic evidence, including a spent cartridge and the rifle believed to have been used in the killing.

Investigation & Reactions

Trump described Kirk’s death as a “heinous assassination.” Leaders across the political spectrum have condemned the killing, calling for calm and denouncing political violence.

While investigators believe the attack was targeted, they have not yet publicly confirmed the motive.

Officials are now analyzing forensic and ballistic evidence to build their case.

What Comes Next

Authorities are expected to release further details on the arrest, including charges and custody status.

The case has sparked renewed debate over security at political events, especially amid rising concerns about polarization and violence in the U.S.

President Trump has already stated that he expects the suspect to face the death penalty under Utah law.
