The United States has introduced a new rule that reshapes Green Card applications for foreigners, including Nigerians.
US Green Card Policy Shift
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced this policy on Friday through a memo from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Under the new rule, foreigners temporarily living in the U.S. can no longer adjust their status from within the country.
Instead, they must return to their home countries to apply for permanent residency.
DHS states that the rule applies to foreign nationals on temporary visas who seek Green Cards.
Applicants must now complete the process outside the United States in most cases.
However, officials may grant limited exceptions on humanitarian or special grounds.
