The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has pushed back against remarks by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, denying any affiliation with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
The reaction follows Atiku’s recent appearance on ARISE Television, where he named the NNPP among parties aligned with the ADC.
In response, NNPP’s National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, issued a statement on Thursday dismissing the claim as inaccurate.
Olaposi clarified that the NNPP remains independent and has no plans to merge with or join the African Democratic Congress.
He emphasised that the involvement of Rabiu Kwankwaso and some of his associates in the ADC coalition does not represent the position of the NNPP as a whole.
NNPP And Its Mission
According to him, individuals such as Ahmed Ajuji and Buba Galadima, along with members of the Kwankwasiya Movement, acted in their personal capacities.
He noted that only a small segment of the movement followed Kwankwaso into the ADC, while many others have since aligned with the ruling APC.
Olaposi also downplayed the political significance of the crowds seen in Kano during Kwankwaso’s recent activities, describing them as misleading and unrepresentative of broader support.
Reaffirming the party’s stance, he said the NNPP is focused solely on its mission as an independent political platform preparing for future elections.
He added that the party holds no hostility toward the ADC but is not interested in any form of political merger.

He further disclosed that the NNPP’s prior agreement with the Kwankwasiya Movement ended after the 2023 general elections, after which Kwankwaso and some of his allies were expelled from the party.
