If you think that the recent flood in Lagos State, which covered more than half of the mega city, was massive, then you need to see this message from the Federal Government.
Residents of Lagos are yet to recover from the recent flood, but to the government, that was just the beginning.
The Federal Government has issued a warning that 94 towns across 22 states are at risk of massive flood from Tuesday, July 16, to Saturday, July 20, 2024.
People who live in these cities are left with no option but to prepare for the flood.
Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Salako, shared this warning on Tuesday.
He indicated that heavy rainfall is expected in these areas.
This could lead to significant flooding during the specified period.
The states at risk include:
1.Adamawa: Gbajili, Ganye
2. Abia: Eziama, Arochukwu
3. Anambra: Onitsha
4. Akwa Ibom: Uyo, Upenekang, Oron, Edor, Eket, Obianga, Etinan
5. Bauchi: Tafawa Balewa, Bauchi
6. Bayelsa: Letugbene
7. Borno: Maiduguri
8. Cross River: Ikom, Calabar, Itigidi, Akpap
9. Nasarawa: Udeni, Tunga
10. Federal Capital Territory: Abaji, Bwari
11. Jigawa: Miga, Ringim, Dutse, Hadejia
12. Kano: Gezawa, Gwarzo, Kano, Karaye, Wudil, Sumaila
13. Kebbi: Gwandu, Jega, Kangiwa, Gauri-Banza, Ribah, Sakaba, Saminaka, Kamba, Birnin Kebbi, Bunza, Argungu, Bagudo
14. Katsina: Bindawa, Jibia, Kaita, Katsina, Daura, Funtua
15. Kwara: Kosubosu
16. Niger: Ibi, Bida, Kontagora, Mashegu, Minna, New Bussa, Katcha, Rijau, Wushishi
17. Plateau: Jos, Mangu
18. Rivers: Port Harcourt, Onne, Okrika, Bori
19. Sokoto: Makira, Goronyo, Isa, Silame, Sokoto, Wamako
20. Taraba: Gembu, Beli, Garkowa, Gasol, Serti, Donga, Duchi, Gwarzo, Gun gun Bodel
21. Yobe: Gashua, Gasma, Damaturu, Geidam, Kanama
22. Zamfara: Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi, Bukkuyum, Majara, Gummi
While residents prepare for what is to come, the government must also play its part.

It was on that note that Dr. Salako urged stakeholders to take preventive measures to mitigate the potential flooding.
Meanwhile, Salako also spoke regarding the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.
To him, the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation is responsible for managing dams and would be notified if there were any plans to open the floodgates.
Furthermore, he added that any such information would typically be relayed to the federal level for coordinated response.
“If there’s going to be any issue around the Lagdo Dam, they will inform the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, but I’m not sure they have had any information because if they have any information, they usually also transmits such information to us at the federal level,” he noted.
