The attack was said to have taken place near the city of Kirkuk, a few kilometers from the country’s capital city, Baghdad, on Sunday.

Although no group has claimed credit for the attack, officials have blamed the Islamic State group for masterminding it.

A similar bomb attack killed three Iraqi soldiers near Baghdad, on Wednesday and the Islamic State said it planted the bomb.

The attack on Sunday began when a bomb blast targeted a truck with police officers in it, near the village of Chalal al-Matar, officials told AFP.
