Fuel Costs Drive Higher Pressure On Lagos–Abuja Flight

In early 2025, fares stayed between ₦100,000 and ₦120,000.

However, December demand pushed prices to ₦150,000–₦200,000.

Jet A1 fuel prices then rose sharply in 2026.

Prices moved from about ₦950 to over ₦2,500 per litre.

Some reports place it near ₦3,000 per litre.

As a result, airlines raised fares again by May 2026.

Economy tickets now reach ₦162,500.

In April 2026, operators warned of possible flight suspension due to fuel costs.

The Federal Government responded by cutting airline charges by 30% and introducing support measures.

Despite this, airlines still adjusted routes and reduced flight frequencies.

Experts say global oil prices and exchange rates continue to drive costs.

As a result, passengers on the Lagos–Abuja route still face rising fares.
