From March 1, passengers will no longer pay with cash at Nigerian airports.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced that travellers must use digital payments at access gates, car parks, and executive lounges.

Cashless From March 1
This change comes as part of FAAN’s “Go Cashless” initiative, which aims to make airport transactions faster, safer, and fully digital.
Consequently, passengers and visitors now need to rely on digital methods for all FAAN-controlled airport services.
According to FAAN, “In line with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s directive, effective March 1, 2026, cash will no longer be accepted at any FAAN pay point.
Every transaction, from entry gates to VIP lounges, must be digital.”
Tap And Go Convenience
To help travellers adjust, FAAN encourages passengers to collect “Tap and Go” cards at access points and lounges.
These cards allow instant payments, so passengers can avoid queues and move through busy areas more efficiently.

Moreover, FAAN reassures the public that the system remains secure and convenient.

Nationwide Airports Rollout
The cashless journey began in September 2025 when FAAN launched a pilot at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
FAAN chose these airports for their high traffic: over 300,000 vehicles pass through access gates monthly, and thousands of VIP travellers use lounges annually.
Furthermore, FAAN partnered with Paystack to provide NFC-enabled contactless terminals.
These terminals remove cash handling, speed up passenger flow, and reduce revenue leakage.
Early results from Lagos and Abuja show a 50% increase in collections, which FAAN expects to rise to 75% nationwide, with the goal of tripling revenue within a year.
Ultimately, passengers will experience a faster, safer, and more convenient airport journey across Nigeria.
