The Academy Awards, widely known as the Oscars, have announced a historic shift from traditional television broadcasting to live streaming on YouTube.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences disclosed the development on Wednesday.

It reveals that the transition will begin with the 101st Oscars ceremony in 2029 and run through 2033.
According to the Academy’s leadership, the decision reflects changing global media consumption habits and aims to connect with younger and more diverse audiences worldwide as digital platforms increasingly replace traditional television.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Lynette Howell Taylor described the move as a landmark partnership.
Also, he noted that YouTube will become the future home of the Oscars as well as its year-round programming.
Under the new arrangement, the awards ceremony will be streamed live and free on YouTube.
