The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) has announced that no Nigerian film will be submitted for consideration in the International Feature Film category for 2026 Oscars
In a statement released on Monday, NOSC chairperson Stephanie Linus revealed that the committee had opened a call for entries in August, which attracted six submissions.

However, after deliberations over the weekend, members voted by majority to make “No Submission,” effectively closing the process for this year.
Explaining the decision, Linus acknowledged that while Nigerian cinema has made notable strides in quality and visibility,.
Also, the films presented still lacked the “creative and technical intentionality” required to compete effectively on the global stage.
“The progress is clear, but there is still a gap when it comes to meeting international award standards. Until our films can consistently align with those benchmarks, competitiveness at platforms like the Oscars remains limited,” she stated.
The NOSC has communicated its resolution to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
