With the countdown to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) underway, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has provided detailed guidance to fans on items that will be barred from stadiums during the tournament.
AFCON 2025 is set to kick off on December 21 in Morocco, with matches scheduled across multiple host cities. CAF says the restrictions aim to ensure the safety of spectators, players, and officials while maintaining order and a smooth experience for attendees.
Security Screening to Be Strict
According to CAF’s official website, all supporters will undergo thorough security checks before entering stadiums. Fans have been urged to leave prohibited items at home to avoid delays or possible denial of entry on match days.
“These measures form part of a broader security plan designed to create a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone attending the tournament,” CAF said in its guidelines.
Items Banned in AFCON Stadiums
CAF’s list of prohibited items is extensive, covering objects that could pose a risk to safety or disrupt the event. These include:
1. Alcoholic drinks
2. Illegal drugs and substances
3. Weapons and sharp objects
4. Fireworks and pyrotechnics
5. Glass bottles or containers
6. Flammable materials
7. Racist, violent, or discriminatory banners
8. Unauthorized political, religious, or commercial signs
9. Drones and animals
10. Large umbrellas and oversized hats
11. Professional cameras and recording equipment
12. Musical instruments and loud horns
13. Radio-emitting devices (except mobile phones)
14. Heavy or oversized bags
Cooperation with Security Personnel
CAF has appealed to fans to cooperate fully with security teams to ensure matches are conducted in a safe, friendly, and tournament-appropriate atmosphere.
