Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, is expected to receive his outstanding salaries soon as Nigeria intensifies preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

This development follows reports revealing that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) owes the coach several months of salary and bonuses.
Chelle, who earns $55,000 monthly and covers the wages of his backroom staff, has reportedly not been paid since last month’s 2026 World Cup Playoffs in Morocco.
Despite the delay, Chelle still handled Nigeria’s last two World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic, as well as crucial playoff fixtures against Gabon and DR Congo, without receiving payment.
A source within the federation confirmed that the coach has been briefed on the situation and assured that payment is imminent.
“Eric came to see us, and we explained the processes.”
“His money will be paid. We have paid him ahead before, and this time we are waiting for cash backing from finance.”
“The money on paper has been paid, and the coach is aware,” the official stated.
In May, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, disclosed that provisions had been made for Chelle’s salary up to October via a presidentially approved support group aimed at stabilising Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup campaign.
“We worked with the Nigeria Football Federation to appoint the coach.”
Although the NFF signed his contract, we decided to cover his salary until October to give the NFF room to secure long-term funding and sponsorship,” Dikko told ex-international Segun Odegbami on Eagle 7 Sports Radio 103.7 FM.
