When people talk about strength, men are often the first picture that comes to mind.
But behind the bravado, humour, hard work, and “I’m fine,” many men carry emotional battles they rarely speak about.

Even in 2025, opening up about mental health is still a major challenge for men.
Here are the key reasons and why things need to change.
1. Society Teaches Men Not to Show Emotion
From childhood, boys hear things like “man up” or “stop crying.”
These messages make vulnerability feel wrong, even though it’s a natural part of being human.
2. Fear of Being Judged or Seen as Weak
Many men stay silent because they don’t want to be perceived as fragile, dramatic, or “less of a man.”
This fear keeps them bottling up what they truly feel.
3. Pressure to Be the Provider
Men often feel they must hold everything together finances, family, and expectations.
Admitting they’re struggling feels like failing, so they push their emotions aside.
4. Lack of Emotional Training Growing Up
A lot of men weren’t taught how to communicate feelings.
They know how to solve problems, but not how to talk about what hurts.
5. Few Safe Spaces to Truly Open Up
Men often lack judgment-free zones where they can express themselves honestly.
Without supportive spaces, silence becomes their only option.
