American rap star Nicki Minaj is scheduled to address a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday.
She will speak on the issue of jihadist violence allegedly targeting Christians in Nigeria.

The development was revealed on X by Eric Cortellessa, a senior political correspondent at Time.
Nicki Minaj will appear alongside the United States Ambassador to the UN, Michael Waltz, as well as Alex Bruesewitz, a senior adviser to former President Donald Trump.
Ambassador Waltz commended the rapper.
He describes her as “not only arguably the greatest female recording artiste, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice.”
He added that he appreciates her use of her platform to highlight the plight of Christians in Nigeria.
Also, he noted: “I look forward to standing with her as we outline the actions the President and his administration are taking to end the persecution of our Christian brothers and sisters.”
Nicki Minaj expressed appreciation for the invitation.
She stated her belief that her influence exists for a greater purpose and reaffirming her commitment to speaking out.
She wrote: “Ambassador, I am deeply grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude. I do not take it lightly. It means more than you know.
“The Barbz and I will never stand down in the face of injustice. Our influence is God-given, and it must serve a bigger purpose.”
The event comes in the wake of President Trump’s assertion of an ongoing “Christian genocide” in Nigeria
