Popular Nigerian DJ, Nonso Temisan Ajufo, better known as DJ Big N, has shared his worry about the current state of Afrobeats, saying the genre is at its lowest point in 20 years.

Speaking in a chat with Echo Room, DJ Big N said both artistes and music executives are to blame.
According to him, many artistes watered down Afrobeats to please international listeners, but it only made the music lose its true sound and quality.
“Afrobeats right now is at its worst position in the last 20 years. Everyone from musicians to music executives has a part to be blamed. The quality and originality dropped,” he said.
DJ Big N added that artistes should focus on keeping the sound original because that’s what made the world fall in love with Afrobeats in the first place.
DJ Big N also said many Nigerian artistes now charge too much, making them unaffordable even in their home country.
He urged them to rethink their approach so the genre doesn’t continue to decline.
