The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Rwanda in a tense FIFA World Cup qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, rekindling their chances of booking a place at the 2026 World Cup.

Nigeria went into the game sitting fourth in Group standings with seven points, trailing leaders South Africa by nine.

The Eagles suffered an early setback as talisman Victor Osimhen was forced off due to injury.

Despite dominating possession, the first half ended goalless.

The breakthrough came in the 51st minute when Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare struck the decisive goal, sealing all three points for Nigeria.

The result lifts the Super Eagles into third place, setting up a crucial clash against South Africa in three days’ time.
