Turkish giants Fenerbahce have parted ways with head coach Jose Mourinho just two days after their elimination from the UEFA Champions League play-offs at the hands of Benfica.

The club confirmed the decision in a statement on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
“Our Professional Football First Team’s technical director, Jose Mourinho, who has been carrying out his duties starting from the 2024-2025 season, has parted ways with us.”
“We thank him for his efforts for our team until today and wish him success in his future career.”
Mourinho was appointed in June 2024 on a two-year contract, with hopes of guiding Fenerbahce to their first Super Lig title in more than a decade.
Despite amassing 90 points last season with 26 wins and six draws in 36 matches his side once again finished second to rivals Galatasaray, marking the club’s fourth consecutive runners-up spot.
In Europe, Fenerbahce advanced past Feyenoord in the Champions League qualifiers but were knocked out by Benfica in the play-off round, ending their hopes of a group-stage appearance.
During his brief stint in Istanbul, Mourinho oversaw 62 matches, winning 37 and drawing 14, giving him a 59.7 per cent win rate.
The Portuguese tactician’s dismissal comes less than 12 hours after fellow former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by Besiktas following their Conference League defeat to Lausanne-Sport.
