The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a major adjustment in the cost of acquiring the Nigerian international passport
In a statement released by the Service, the fee for a 32-page passport with 5-year validity has been increased from ₦26,000 to ₦100,000, representing almost a 300% increment.

Likewise, the cost of a 64-page passport with 10-year validity has been raised to ₦200,000.
The new tariff will officially come into effect on September 1, 2025.
However, this gives prospective applicants only a few days to prepare for the higher charges.
According to the NIS, the increase is aimed at covering production costs, improving efficiency, and aligning with international standards.
The Service added that the adjustment will also enable better investment in technology to curb passport racketeering, reduce waiting time.
Also, to enhance the overall quality of service delivery to Nigerians both at home and abroad.
The announcement has already stirred conversations across social media.
Many Nigerians are expressing concern over the affordability of international travel documents in a period marked by economic hardship, inflation, and rising living costs.
Stakeholders in the travel and tourism sector have also warned that the steep increase may discourage international mobility and affect businesses that rely on frequent travel.
