Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has expressed concern over the shifting values in the Nigerian film industry, noting that today’s Nollywood prioritises appearance over passion.

In an interview, Akintola reflected on the industry’s evolution, recalling when actors chased their dreams with hunger and passion instead of money or glamour.
She shared that she and her colleagues once worked tirelessly, often overnight, without concern for food or pay, all in the pursuit of storytelling.
She said Nollywood legends like Joke Silva and Shola Sobowale also valued the craft over comfort.
However, she argued that the industry has now taken a different turn, with many actors placing more emphasis on makeup, fashion, and even cosmetic surgeries like BBLs.
“The passion is gone… it’s now about looks, not content,” Akintola said, warning that while appearances will fade, true artistry will always stand the test of time.
