But there are some things that we have noticed in the 2023 Nigerian Presidential Election process that voters must watch out for.

At a polling unit, prior to this time, it is easier for persons who cannot read to quickly identify the boxes by the cover of the ballot boxes.

Misleading Colours 

Before now, the colours of the boxes’ cover align with the colour in the ballot paper. But that is not the case in the 2023 Nigerian Presidential Election.

Most electoral officials are not taking care to ensure covers tally.

There is a mix up. If you have voted, you must have noticed that the Presidential ballot paper has a black line, the House of Representatives a green line and the Senate a red line.

That is supposed to be the covers of the boxes, for easy identification of where to place the ballot paper after thumbprinting. But these colours to not match.

Meanwhile, we have observed that some voters put the ballot papers in the boxes based on that cover colour.

As a result, some ballot papers for the presidential election have ended up in boxes with black covers which are for Senatorial election.

This could result in rigging when sorting begins.

If you are a voter, you may need to observe the sorting of the ballot papers properly

Basically, you need to ensure proper sorting of the ballot papers before counting begins.

If you ignore this, you will find votes for Senatorial candidate counted for a Presidential candidate.

We know that most parties do not have candidates for Senate in some wards and as such, they could lose their presidential vote without proper monitoring.
