Primo de Rivera will be reburied near the graves of several of his family members.
José Antonio Primo De Rivera was a fascist leader while he was alive and he inspired the Franco dictatorship in Spain.
Also, he played a great part in the uprising of Hen Francisco Franco that trigged the 1936-1939 civil war.
He was executed by a Republican firing squad in November 1936 in Alicante.
Years later and his remains lie in a giant mausoleum created by the former fascist regime outside Madrid.
Now, Spain is ready to exhume the remains of De Rivera.
What Would Be Done
De Rivera’s grave is next to the altar at a basilica in the Valley of the Fallen in the Franco mausoleum. This has been renamed Cuelgamuros Valley.
Meanwhile, Franco’s remains were removed from there in 2019, which angered far-right activists who still cherish his memory.
De Rivera’s remains will be moved to Madrid’s San Isidro cemetery as part of the government’s drive against symbols of fascism.
