Ollie Watkins has revealed his pre-match goal prediction came to fruition in England’s Euro 2024 semi-final triumph over the Netherlands.
Gareth Southgate’s decision to bring on Watkins and Cole Palmer in place of Harry Kane and Phil Foden respectively in the final 10 minutes of regulation time proved to be a stroke of genius, as the Aston Villa striker scored a late winner from the Chelsea star’s assist against the Dutch in Dortmund.
The Three Lions once again came back from behind to edge out their opponents to qualify for their second consecutive European Championship final: All thanks to the partnership of Watkins and Palmer.
The Villans forward, who turned hero for the Three Lions in the end, claimed after the game that he had predicted that he and Palmer would combine to score the winner after coming off the bench.
Speaking to reporters after the incredible victory, the 28-year-old said: “I swear on my kids’ life.
“I told Cole Palmer earlier today; we’d be coming on and he’d set me up and I’d score.
“And it happened.”
