University lecturer dies flood

A university lecturer, Philip Azubuike, has been confirmed dead after he was swept away by the flood that occurred at Trademore Estate in the Lugbe area of Abuja on Friday, June 23.

Azubuike worked as a lecturer in the Physics Department at Modibbo Adama University of Technology in Yola, Adamawa State, up until the time of his passing.

It was said that he was driving his Peugeot 406 with the license plate YLA 681 FS when he was swept away.

His corpse was found in the canal by the estate’s entrance.

Alhaji Ashiru, a police inspector who was recently assigned to the region, described how he lost all of his possessions due to the flood and claimed that other locals helped him retrieve the corpse out of the canal.

Several residents said they saw the victim struggling to come out of the Peugeot car when the flood started.
