Picture a world where your child’s every move, thought, and emotion is potentially being shaped by social media.
What was once a tool for connecting with friends now acts as a stage where millions of young lives are on display. They are open to both inspiration and exploitation.
Many parents have welcomed the digital age. However, others are left wondering whether their children are truly safe in a space that’s often beyond their control.
As young users become more addicted to social media, the question grows louder: how far should we go to protect them?
Underage Social Media Ban Proposal
Now, the UK government is now struggling with this very issue. It is contemplating a bold step to restrict social media access for children under 16.

Technology Secretary Peter Kyle has confirmed that such a ban is “on the table”. This is following in the footsteps of Australia, which is already planning similar legislation.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Kyle said: “I will do what it takes to ensure online safety, particularly for children.”
He also acknowledged that the government lacked “firm, peer-reviewed evidence” on the impact of technology on young people.
“Everything is on the table with me,” he said.
As the discussion continues, the future of online safety for young people is uncertain.
With both experts and parents urging action, the government’s decision will probably set an important example for how the digital world is regulated in the future.
