Kendrick Lamar is set to make history by becoming the first rapper to headline the Super Bowl halftime show as a solo act.
The National Football League (NFL), Roc Nation, and Apple Music officially announced on Sunday that the California-born hip-hop icon will take center stage at the 2025 Super Bowl.
However, the show is scheduled for February 9 in New Orleans.
Jay-Z, the founder of Roc Nation, praised Lamar’s artistry and cultural impact in a statement.
He said: “Kendrick is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer”.
Kendrick Lamar responded to the announcement by emphasising the continued importance of rap music.
“Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date,” he said.
Kendrick Lamar career already earned 17 Grammy Awards and previously performed during the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show.
Furthermore, he was part of a star-studded lineup featuring hip-hop legends like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem.
However, his upcoming performance will be the first time a rapper headlines the iconic event as a solo act.

Lamar’s historic Super Bowl performance also comes amid ongoing tensions with fellow rapper Drake.
