Spotify: Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ Sets New Record For Biggest Opening Week

Asake’s latest album, Lungu Boy, has shattered records by achieving the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria, garnering an impressive 18.9 million streams.

This milestone surpasses the previous record of 14.4 million streams set by Davido’s Timeless.

Lungu Boy now leads the list of albums with the biggest opening weeks on Spotify Nigeria, placing Asake ahead of notable artists like Davido, Rema, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.

Asake also makes history as the only artiste with two albums in the top 10, with his sophomore album Work Of Art securing 8.3 million streams in its opening week.

Top 5 Albums with the Biggest Opening Week on Spotify Nigeria:

  1. Asake – Lungu Boy – 18.9M
  2. Davido – Timeless – 14.4M
  3. Rema – HEIS – 12.3M
  4. Burna Boy – I Told Them – 9.4M
  5. Asake – Work Of Art – 8.3M

This monumental feat comes as Lungu Boy surpassed Rema’s HEIS for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria in 2024, achieving this milestone in just four days.

Lungu Boy also set a new record for the biggest opening day of global streams for a Nigerian album on Spotify, with 9.2 million streams.

Additionally, the album’s second track, “MMS,” recorded 870,577 streams on its first day on Spotify Nigeria, setting a new platform record by surpassing the previous 626,000 streams set by Wizkid’s “IDK” featuring Zlatan.
