Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer, Asake has shed light on why he predominantly sings in Yoruba.
During a recent interactive session with fans on Instagram, the Omo Ope hitmaker clarified that he was also capable of singing in English.
Also, he said that he feels a deeper connection and comfort when performing in his native Yoruba dialect.
Asake didn’t mince words when addressing those who might criticise his language choice.
He stated: “I’m more comfortable singing in Yoruba; it’s not that I can’t sing in English. If you fk with me, fk with me with my Yoruba. If not, then don’t”.
His message was clear: He intends to stay true to his roots, and those who don’t appreciate his preference for Yoruba are free to stop listening to his music.
All three of Asake’s albums—Mr Money With The Vibes (2022), Work of Art (2023), and the most recent Lungu Boy—feature songs predominantly sung in Yoruba.
