It was a quiet afternoon in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State when a sudden, tragic event shattered the peace.
It all started at around 4.20 p.m. on Thursday. Residents of Isunba Street were jolted from their daily routines by the sound of raised voices.
A dispute, one that may have started as a minor disagreement, escalated quickly between two women.
Devastating Loss In Ogun State Community
The result was a devastating loss—the death of 65-year-old Oladega Morenike, allegedly at the hands of her neighbour, Abigail Bankole.
“What began as a simple argument turned into a tragedy,” said a concerned local, reflecting the disbelief that had gripped the community.
Meanwhile, neighbours described the confrontation as unexpected.
This argument between Morenike and Bankole grew and before anyone knew what was happening a neighbour pushed the elderly woman.
The force of the push caused Morenike to lose her balance and strike her head against a wall. The blow was fatal. “She didn’t stand a chance.
It all happened so fast,” one witness recalled. As Morenike lay unconscious on the ground, her son Ibrahim rushed to the scene, only to find that his mother had already succumbed to her injuries.

Statement From Ogun State Police Command
However, in a statement released by the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola confirmed the tragic incident.
“On November 21, 2024, at around 6.20pm, Ibrahim Oladega, a resident of Isunba Street in Ipokia, reported that his mother, 65-year-old Oladega Morenike, had been involved in an altercation with her neighbour, Abigail Bankole,” Odutola explained.
“The confrontation escalated into a fight, during which the deceased was pushed and hit her head against a wall before collapsing.”
Assailant Fled The Scene
Police were swiftly dispatched to the scene.
There, they discovered Morenike’s lifeless body, which was later taken to the General Hospital in Ipokia.
Sadly, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Bankole, the alleged assailant, fled the scene immediately after the incident and remains at large.
“We are doing everything we can to locate the suspect,” Odutola confirmed, assuring the public that the investigation is ongoing.
The case will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further action, as the Ipokia community reels from the shock of the senseless loss.
