Xi Jinping has been re-elected for a historic five-year third term as China’s president making him the country’s most powerful leader in generations.
President Xi was re-elected for a third term on Friday by unanimous votes at the ongoing session of the National People’s Congress of the Communist Party.
The re-elected president promises to keep transforming his country. He believes that will enable it to provide more opportunities for the world.
Speaking to newsmen, President Xi assured that his passion to modernize China was still on course.
Also, he promises to work with other countries to “champion humanity’s shared values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy, and freedom to safeguard global peace and promote global development”.
“We’ll be steadfast in deepening reform and opening up across the board, and in pursuing high-quality development.
“A prosperous China will create many more opportunities for the world,” Xi said.
Russia Congratulates Xi
As soon as he was declared as president again, Xi took an oath which was shown live on state television.

In the oath, he vowed to “build a prosperous, strong, democratic, civilised, harmonious and great modern socialist country.”
Meanwhile, China’s close ally Russia immediately offered Xi its “sincere congratulations” on his re-election.
“Russia highly values your personal contribution toward the strengthening of ties and strategic cooperation between our nations,” President Vladimir Putin said in a letter to his “dear friend” Xi.
