Cristiano Ronaldo and the entire Al-Nassr were up against Al-Ettifaq in a crucial football match on Tuesday, but it appeared to have come at a wrong time.
Just few days after Lionel Messi was crowned ‘GOAT’ for the 8th time, Ronaldo needed to make a mark on his side of the world to keep his name in the mind of his fans, while talks on Messi spread.
But fans of Al-Ettifaq were not willing to let him reign in their stadium.
The two Saudi Pro League heavyweights came head-to-head in the King Cup of Champions round of 16, where an extra time Sadio Mane goal secured a narrow win for Ronaldo’s side.
The Portugal star – who also appeared to mock the away supporters at the full-time whistle – responded to chants mid-game hailing Messi, hitting back with a “shh” gesture and seemingly indicating for them to settle down.
It is not the first time Ronaldo’s eternal footballing rival has been used by opposing fans.
However, Tuesday’s taunts certainly carried more weight after Messi celebrated that historic Ballon d’Or on Monday.
This was something which prompted a surprising reaction from the Al-Nassr forward.
