R. Kelly is suing to get his prison money back, which the government took to pay off a debt he owes.

In March 2023, the Illinois Supreme Court said Heather Williams could get money from Kelly’s music earnings, which were around $1.5 million in 2020.
This money was part of a $3.5 million ruling against Kelly for not paying rent on a studio.
Then, in August, a judge ordered Kelly and his music company to hand over more than $500,000 from his music royalties. Before that, they had taken $28,000 from his jail account.
