Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu is set to return to France on Friday, August 23, 2024.
This is barely 24 hours after his quick return to Nigeria.
Days ago, President Tinubu departed Nigeria for France.
Till now, Nigerians have yet to know the reason for this trip.
However, after barely three days in France, President Tinubu said he was returning home.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu’s sudden return was a result of the inauguration of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
The Swearing-In Ceremony
That ceremony was scheduled for Friday, August 23, and for President Tinubu, he must be present at the event.
Indeed, Tinubu returned to the country on Friday morning to swear in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Tinubu swore in Justice Kekere-Ekun at about 11:38 am at the State House in Abuja.
Now, Justice Kekere-Ekun is the second Nigerian female jurist to serve as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, after Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, who was the Chief Justice of Nigeria between July 2012 and November, 2014.
Kekere-Ekun will operate in an acting capacity until confirmation by the Senate.
Dignitaries Present
This new role follows her recommendation for the position by the National Judicial Council and the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
Among the dignitaries who witnessed the swearing-in event were:
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio
The leadership of the House of Representatives, represented by Prof Julius Ihonbvere
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu
Immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume
National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and
other Justices of the Supreme Court.
Now, after fulfilling the purpose of his return to Nigeria, President Tinubu is set to return back to France.
Rumour has it that the president is visiting France on one of his medical trips.
Although the government has yet to react to this, this information has spread across social media like wildfire.
