Social media critic Martins Otse, widely known as Verydarkman (VDM), has reportedly been detained by the Nigeria Police Force.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, announced this development on Thursday night through a post on his official Facebook page.
According to Adeyanju, Verydarkman was arrested after complying with an invitation from the police.
He stated: “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation, just like yesterday.
VDM has been consistent in asserting that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”
The circumstances surrounding his detention appear to be linked to his recent appearance in a viral video where he was seen wearing a police uniform.
This incident has drawn significant attention, prompting a backlash from the police.
Last Thursday, the Nigeria Police condemned Verydarkman’s unauthorised use of their official uniforms and equipment in the video.
The police force, through its spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that an investigation had been launched into the matter.
