While the good people of Ondo State prepare to appoint new local government leaders in the LG elections scheduled for Saturday, January 18, the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has decided to aid that preparation.
You see, some residents and indigenes may need to travel to their homes before they will be able to cast their votes.
To ensure this individuals do not miss the election, the state government declared Friday, January 17, 2025, a work-free day for public servants.
The directive, issued in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, is aimed at enabling residents to travel to their respective communities to participate in the polls.
“The Ondo State Government has declared Friday, 17th of January, 2025, as a work-free day for public servants in the state to enable them to travel to their various communities to exercise their civic responsibilities,” the statement read.
Governor Aiyedatiwa also urged stakeholders to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
PDP Vs INEC
Sadly, this election have faced a setback with the withdrawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
All was going according to plan, until the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, delivered the party’s message to the public.

“We are not taking part in the Ondo State local government elections,” he declared.
The PDP expressed a lack of confidence in the process conducted by the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC).
However, despite the development, ODIEC assured the public that the withdrawal would not disrupt the electoral process, reiterating its commitment to a credible election.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the election, the Ondo State Police Command announced a restriction on vehicular and motorcycle movement across the state from 6 am to 4 pm on Saturday.
