The social media space has been buzzing with reactions after an old tweet of Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu praising President-elect, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) emerged.
Aisha Yesufu is a strong supporter of the Labour Party (LP), presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
During the 2023 presidential election, Yesufu became a major problem for the incumbent party.
Day by day, the activist calls out the party over their poor performance over the years, pledging her support for Obi.
The ‘Stolen’ Mandate
Aisha’s fight for good governance did not end with Peter Obi’s defeat at the polls.
She is strongly behind the LP candidate in his quest to reclaim his ‘stolen mandate’.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Tinubu the winner of the presidential election after he polled the highest number of votes in the 2023 general elections.
Tinubu had polled 8,794,726 votes.
He defeated Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who had 6,984,520 votes and 6,101, 533 votes respectively.
Now they have both filed petitions challenging Tinubu’s victory.
Delayed Gratification
However, contrary to her stance in the past, old tweets of the activist show there was a time she praised Tinubu’s strategic planning, tenacity and consistency in building his party, the APC.
One of her tweets read; “Tinubu has shown what consistency can do. He builds the opposition to what it is today. Strategic decision very key.”
Another one reads, “Have you seen what Tinubu has done? That’s delayed gratification. Slowly building his party. One day”
How Nigerians React
The tweets have sparked reactions amongst Nigerians.
They accuse the activist of standing in opposition to someone she had once showed support for, due to his hard work and tenacity.
obembet: ”Politics is a game of benefits… Aisha knows what she’s doing as obi know too. Only foolish people play emotional politics”.
Seun msg: ”It was a prophetic tweet that came to pass.
“Sadly, she did not even believe her own prophesy despite God revealing it to her.
“She voted against her own conviction to please the mob and she lost with the mob”.
Flokii: ‘‘God rewards hard work.. Tinubu worked hard for APC in the past and now that hard work has paid him.
“Unlike the other man that left APGA to PDP, left PDP and joined Labour party with nothing to show in the end.
“No shortcut to success”.
