By this time, three years ago, a sudden overload of news of deaths in different countries made the world had a rethink. People were pulled out of the streets and places of worship as a result of ravaging COVID-19.
While people wondered how they will adjust to not gathering for prayers and services in church, a movement erupted.
The New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD) was the name the convener, Pastor Jerry Eze, called it.
Indeed, it is regular for topics like entertainment, fashion, health, and so on to trend online.
But the fact that a Christian religious body suddenly rose across various online platforms and remained trendy for three years and counting is one to be applauded.
You may have heard or read the phrase, “What God cannot do does not exist”. This emanated from a digital session called, The New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD).
How It Started
NSPPD is an online prayer platform that started during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, as a result of the ban on church activities and other public gatherings to curb the spread of the virus.
As a result of the lockdown, people were confined to their homes and needed to have the same spiritual experience they had when they worshipped in physical church services.
Pastor Jerry Eze, who is the pastor of Streams of Joy International, saw this need and started the NSPPD online prayer sessions on YouTube and other platforms from 8:00AM to 9:00AM every Monday to Friday.
The digital evangelist receives prayer requests after prayer sessions daily, prints, stacks them on pulpit and prays over them.
Christians from all over the world hooked up to the programme, and different kinds of testimonies started rolling in, in their numbers.
Modern Day Christianity
The prayer platform became so popular that other churches had to start organizing theirs. Critics said it was a move to ensure they wouldn’t lose their members to another church.
Today, March 30, makes it three years since NSPPD was born.
Indeed, the prayer platform has changed the trajectory of Christianity in Nigeria, as churches are beginning to adopt digitalization in the way they run their programmes and services.
Distance is no longer a barrier these days, as you can stream church programmes online and have almost the same physical experience if not more.

In a video Jerry posted to celebrate the 3 year anniversary, Jerry highlighted what is to com.
“We have entered into a season like sweeping like a flood, and just as that house that was not built on the rock, as many of the structures that were not authored by God are going to be going down,” he said.
