Nollywood’s ‘The Black Book’ Tops Netflix World Chart

What a great accomplishment for Nollywood director Editi Effiong, as his recent movie “The Black Book” became the first-ever Nollywood film to claim the number one spot on Netflix worldwide.

The Black Book

The Black Book was released on September 22, 2023, which gave Nigerians a look at what has been happening in Nigeria.

This movie is one of many that has opened the eyes of many Nigerians to see what is truly happening in the country.

The Black Book Synopsis

The movie started with the kidnapping and killing of the husband and infant of Professor Craig (Bimbo Akintola).

The kidnapping and killing of her family emanated from the professor, who also doubles as a minister, revealing some dark secrets of corruption in the ministry.

To cover their doings, the plotters of the killings sort of pin the killing to an innocent Damilola Edima (Olumide Oworu), son of Paul Edima (Richard Mofe-Damijo).

Paul was formerly part of this gang but has since gone low and settled on serving the Lord as a deacon.

Following the killing of his innocent son, Paul Edima seeks to avenge the death of his son and goes after the mastermind, who also doubles as his former boss, General Issa (played by Alex Usifo).

Paul wins the fight and retrieves the black book.

Success Of The Movie

It claimed the top spot worldwide just five days after its debut on Netflix.

According to Netflix’s data from September 18 to 24, the film accumulated a staggering 5.6 million views and an astounding 11.6 million watch hours.

The movie ‘The Black Book’ holds a TV-MA rating, indicating that it is intended for mature audiences due to its inclusion of smoking and graphic scenes of violence.
